If “waving” the weft is important before beating what happens when you use a fly shuttle?

I thought I replied to this but I don't see the post.  I don't really understand your question.  The weft is inserted into the shed the same way with a hand shuttle or a flying shuttle, then beat.

Some people recommend making the weft 'bubble' or 'wave'.  Unless you are doing weft faced rugs, there is no need to do this.

It is impossible to weave quickly if bubbling or arcing the weft and as Laura noted above, it is not necessary for most type of weaving.  I teach my students to allow the weft to travel across the warp at an angle (the distance between the fell and where the shuttle race lies).  No fiddling, just allowing the weft to  travel quickly, this gives a nice selvedge while allowing for some take up in the weft.

Thank you for your reply.  The reason I asked is that I'm about to purchase a Toika Terhi Rug loom. One of the optional accessories is of course a fly shuttle but as has been said, and mentioned in Collingwood's Book, weft face rug weaving requires a wave  for every foot width of weave.  The weave width of the loom is 200 cm so I thought the fly shuttle would speed things along when I weave rugs at this width however it would appear that this is not the case with weft faced rugs. I presume that I can leave the fly shuttle device in place and hand throw a ski shuttle instead when necessary.
