Hi,

I am a new weaver and I have a wondeful floor loom that I love.   But I love to take classes..and with my life situation,  warping the looms at a shop in advance is going to be hard...so I am researching portable workshop looms, ones that can be warped before class.(hope to get in next 6 months but I can take my time buying)

Are there any that are suitable for rug weaving classes ?( would not regularly weave rugs on it though)

suggestions on width ? Smallest width ?

i was thinking 8 harnesses...or capability to grow to 8 ?

I have  kind of ruled out table looms..because I can't imagine a rug weaving class on them is this correct ?

i plan on taking weaving classes on cloth weaving also..as it is such fun!  Definitely want to learn double weave and it's cool variables.. As well as all the variants of twill.(hopefully as much as possible) And so much more!

thanks.

Rita

Well, of course you will not be able to weave a rug "proper" on a table loom, but for a class it should be ok, in my thinking. One can learn the techniques, even if the "correct" beating is impossible - a class is just a class, not a production opportunity...

So, to me, # of shafts (8, you suggest) and portability (weight) would be the most important factors.
