Hi I'm new to weaving and have a million questions so thought this would probably be the best place to start :) I've just bought an old Harris (UK) 4 shaft table loom that appears to be all present and in a working order. The reeds seem ok but have an oily feel to them.....is this normal or should they be dry ? Hope this makes sense Flossy

They should be dry. Perhaps they were coated in something to keep them from rusting? The reed that came with my new wolf pup was kind of oily too so I took some wool yarn I no longer wanted and cut it in lengths and sat and flossed it first one direction and then the next. It took a while but wasn't difficult. It helped clean it. Wait to do anything till you get more advice. I'm new too :-)
