The option seemed to be

  1. the $30 heddle holder (plus shipping) made by Glimakra
  2. make my own out of wood and a couple of pieces of dowel (takes up as much room as 1, but cheaper.  Also MUCH MUCH SLOWER.)
  3. Binder rings on either end - I forget where I saw that - but that leaves them perhaps more vulnerable to cat attack because now there are those shiny rings to play with, too

Not liking any of my options, I started wondering where I had seen the binder ring idea.  I didn't figure that one out - but musing upon the subject finally set off another lightbulb in my head.

The perfect heddle storage solution - at least for my heddles!

Cat proof texsolv heddle storage!

(BTW - the center parts just goes behind the middle ring, I didn't bother to hook it through except at top and bottom)

Genius! I should do something like that with the hundred or so inkle loom heddles, once I remember the safe place I put them! Hint: they weren't with the loom. :(

What breed of cat is this?   Mine couldn't recognize one binder from another, or for that matter....be able to remove it from the shelf and open it...some clever cat U have there!.....a lion, maybe?

@ Pammersw - Yes, I fear I often put things in a safe place.  Very safe.  Including from me!

@JLRead - no, the cats are no danger to the heddles in a binder - only if they are clipped loose with just a binder ring on either end.  And that mostly because I can't be trusted not to set them down somewhere and forget about them!

@ReedGuy - not a cat person, eh?  Besides the fact that I would feel awful if something happened to them - or to the birds at my bird feeder, for that matter - they aren't my cats.  They're my son's cats.  I doubt he would ever forgive me!

Besides, if they're in a binder, I am far less likely to lose them - ala "putting them somewhere safe" and thus never seeing them again, LOL!

Don't forget to put a tag on the outside of the binder spine.  All binders look alike on the shelf.  Even to clever cats.
