Can someone give me instructions for folding a 24" CP loom? I haven't folded it in so long, I've forgotten. I can get it folded, but don't want to take off any more than I have to. If someone has a picture (front view) of the loom folded, that would be great.

Thanks,

Linda

I can scan my instructions and email them to you, but I'm not too adept at scanning and have to wait until my husband is home to help.

First, take the treadle hooks off and put in a safe place that you will take with you after moving the CP!!!

Second, unhook the little hooks on the bar that goes in front of the treadles.

Third, unscrew the bars that hold the front or breast beam up. I lay them back against the inside of the loom.

Fourth, fold up the back beam the arms are hinged here.

Fifth, pulling gently up on the front beam it will fold leaving your warp on, if it is wapred and letting the treadles dangle.

Sixth, hook the chains on the side to hold it together and wheel away!

Here is a page from Sarah Haskell's Blog: Macomber Looms and Me that has photos of the folded CP: http://www.macomberloomsandme.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-10-09T11:14:00-04:00&max-results=7&start=35&by-date=false

Success to you!

Thanks . I haven't folded it in so many years. I have a tendency to take too many parts off!

I was able to get it folded following SDSue's directions. Appreciate all the help.

I used to take the treadles off and fold the loom all the way as per SDSue's directions.  Then I discovered it will fit in my vehicle with only the back part folded.  I fold in the back and hold it with a bungy cord through the handles, put a bungy cord over the treadles to hold some tension on them, put the frame retaining pins in the lower holes to prevent the frames from sliding out, and lie the loom down on its back.  This allows me to transport the loom without removing the treadle hooks; a very big time saver!

Since I now use Texsolv to tie up the treadles, I can fold up the loom without untieing the treadles.  Great improvement both for folding and for not dropping hooks!

Guess what I found? A duplicate of the original instruction pamphlet!  If you send my your snail mail address by private message, it's yours.

Hi

I am a New weaver. I recently purchased a used Baby 20" Macomber loom.

Owner has passed and not alot of technical information on it(History thought--that's fun-small town and people have stories involving the past owner's history with it). It is around 40 years old.

I would love to fold it down for easy transport.  I was told not to fold w. tie ups.  But, then I hear stories of the past owner taking workshops in other towns-traveling.  So, she must have been able to fold it.  The ones on the Macomber site look compact.  I can only fold one side down.  Which makes it akward for me to get out of my car.

And, I am just learning all the parts and steps of weaving.

It would be great to have general info.  Maybe a manual?

Any information would be great!

Thanks,

Stacy

PS I have someone to help me set-up on mon-tues of next week.  It would be great to find info soon! :)

Folding in the back beam of the baby Macomber is easy--just pull up the hinged braces.

Folding in the front beam is another story. If you are using the metal hooks to tie the treadles to the lamms, you need to remove them. This is where it is nice to use Texsolv to tie the treadles to the lamms as they can remain tied. Next loosen and remove the wing nuts that hold the side braces in place. The bar with the treadles attached swings up and the breast beam pulls up. I think that a series of photos would be more useful than words here. If you want photos, let me know.

I'm trying to figure out how to fold the front part of the CP loom.  If you have pictures, please send.

Thanks,

How do you use the texsolv?  Loop it over the lam? Do you use beads on the bottom to hold the treadle?  Or a knot?

Curious - sounds like a modification I might like to try.
