I am still on my CM learning curve.  I am looking at some drafts in Laila Lundell's book "Rep Weave" and have a question regarding tie-ups.  Do the dark block get tied to the rising shafts and the light to the sinking?  Sometimes this is all as clear as glass to me, and other times my mind just cannot wrap itself around it.  Getting used to the countermarche and its operation has been alot harder than I thought.  On my jack looms it seems that I can almost dress the looms with my eyes closed, but with the CM I am questioning every step I take.

In Laila Lundell's Big Book of Weaving, the blank squares are tied to the rising shafts (lower lamms) and the dark squares are tied to the sinking shafts (upper lamms). It should be the same in the Rep book.  Even if it weren't, all that would happen is that you'd be weaving upside down from the draft.

A good mnemonic for countermarche looms is that 'lower lamms lift'. So blank, or circle-filled (remember 'balloons') squares are usually tied to the lower lamms.  Dark squares or x's (remember 'anchors') are tied to the upper lamms. Hope this helps!

Sorry, double-post...wish Weavo would let the author delete posts.

"Bubbles rise" - 0

"Anchors sink" - X

I just read that the other day and if it has stuck with me (I have a VERY bad memory) it must be a good mnemonic!  Can't remember where I read it though so I can't give proper credit ...

Or you could try the Vävstuga Tie-Up System

I seem to be able to remember "bottoms up" for which lamm rises, but the drafts baffle me once in awhile - so now it could be "bubble bottoms up" :-)
