A couple quick questions:

Can I just use any old lease sticks?  I'm need some for my 36'' HD and I noticed it came with what looks like two wooden dowels tied together with string, but I'm not sure if the lease sticks have to be the flat pieces of wood.

Also,  what would the ideal spacing be on a DIY raddle?

And do you guys find the little sett tool to be useful?

Thanks!

Also, do you know recommended depth height dimensions for the board for the raddle?  Most just say "a board" but I want to make sure I get one that will work.  Thanks!

Nice thing about raddles is they are NOT high tech, high tolerance parts.  The board just needs to be sized not to flex too much or break.  for my 45 inch loom I used a 1 by 2 inch piece of oak, drilled undersize holes every half inch on narrow edge to start nails (and avoid splitting), then rounded over with my router and sanded it nice and smooth.  Finished by hammering in the nails.  I used shiny finish nails to avoid future corrosion.  A very short project.

Lease sticks can be round, though most are flat.  My raddle (I use it on all my looms) is also a 1x2; mine is poplar.  I drilled holes at 1/2" spacing and screwed small screw eyes in.  I clamp it to the back of the loom, and as I load it, I slide a 1/4" dowel through the eyes to secure the sections.

Try the round lease sticks.  If you find that they are difficult for you try the flat ones.  Weavers use a variety of shapes and sizes of lease sticks - it is a personal preference thing.  I only use them to hold the cross when I warp from back to front.  But some people beam with the lease sticks on the warp and even weave with them left on.

I am not sure what you mean by sett tool. If it's the 1" wood piece used to wrap yarn around to calculate sett - it is helpful and fun to use but you can use a ruler instead.

Big white sofa dog - I like the idea of the screw eyes and dowel!

Raddles work very well with screw eyes and a retaining rod:

Even better, mrdubyah! What did you make the retaining rod from?

ReedGuy

Yes indeed. They also work with dowel wood and a cap of wood over the dowels, the old fashioned way. Whatever works. :)

Lease sticks over the back beam. :)

That retaining road is just small diameter steel rod from my local hardware store with a loop bent into one end.  The screw eyes are at 1/2" intervals.  One raddle is 24" and the other 36"
