Since so many of us live in rural areas, I wanted to have a place where weavers who live in Maine (or just like to visit), could share information about their projects, get local mentoring, and maybe share local knowledge.

A Robinson, how was the Fiber College? I was away this year but I'd love to hear your experience as I may be around next year.

DAYe Weaver

I just joined the group, real name Deb. I've been weaving for quite a few years, but always feel like there is so much to learn! I' have finally moved my looms out of the house, where they were taking over, to a studio in the mill in Biddeford. My studio name is DAYe Weaver Studio. If any of you are ever in the Biddeford/ Saco area come and say hello. I'm located right behind Saco River Yarn, you have to go through the store to get to me.

You have some great resources not far from you in Gorham. There is Port Fiber in Portland as well as Halcyon just up the road in Bath.  If you haven't already joined Ravelry, you might check out their boards for used looms and spinning wheels.  Also, keep checking Uncle Henry's.  I bought my first 8-shaft loom through there and I'm always seeing wheels and looms.

If you're ever in the Bangor area, let me know and we can get together and talk fiber!

Hi, I live in Southwest Harbor. I'm a fairly new weaver. I have two looms a Baby Wolf and a 48" 1948 Macomber loom. I'm interested in hearing what projects other weavers are working on.

You might want to check out the Mainely Weavers group. They often have equipment and yarn to sell at very reasonable prices, plus a lively group which meets monthly. Contact Jayne Flanagan in Scarborough or go to these links for more information (the main website appears to be down):

I was given 2 looms theat are cambridge 4 harness. One is for rugs and the other is for ?. I have no idea what the heck I am doing or how to even set them up. All the parts are there except for shuttles? I was told. HELP what do I do next?

Don G

Sandy, I would first take a basic weaving course to see if you like weaving. That should help in dealing with the looms. Try Halcyon Yarn in Bath.

Hi, Don G!

I have a Baby Wolf too.  Currently, I'm working my way through the Doubleweave book.  The "quilted" piece is taking FOREVER.  I'm planning a baby blanket to weave on my 36" Harrisville which I think will be finished before the doubleweave sampler!

Hi, Sandy.  We've all been newbies at one point on our weaving journey.  I would recommend Deborah Chandler's book "Learning to Weave."  It has great step by step instructions when you have the looms ready to go.

In the meantime, try checking out Ravelry's "Warped Weavers" forum.  It helps to post a picture of what you have so others can help you sort it out.  Did you get any manuals with the looms?  Also doing a search on Cambridge looms here and on Ravelry may be helpful.  Let me know if you're ever in Old Town and you can come play/learn at my looms.

Hi Chris, As I stated before I'm fairly new to weaving and I try to challenge myself with each new project. I am currently working on making curtains for my skylights windows. I resently made a rag rug on the Baby Wolf. Some say you can't make a rug on this loom but I think it came out fine. I think my next challenge is to weave a wool rug. I will use the Macomber for that. Do you have any tips or suggestion on making rugs? Don

I am looking for weavers in the Ellsworth or Bangor  area that I can get some advice from. I had a table loom years ago, loaned it and never got it back, so for at least 15 years I was loomless and I got very dusty and rusty. I finally bought a Structo 600 loom and am getting ready to weave again. I am finding that I must have forgotten everything I knew and youtube is confusing. Are there any weavers' groups in my part of Maine?

Peg R

I generally buy from Webs, Jagerspun (wholesale acct), and Halcyon. Occasionally Silk City. That pretty much takes care of any needs I have. The only issue with Webs is that lots of yarns are close-outs, so if  customer wants something similar to what I have done before, it may be tough to get the same yarns.

Lucky you! I did a workshop with Jenny Slick from Castle Rock last winter. Phenomenal weaver! I wish I had more time to that type of weaving.

I'm new to weaving. I just started last year on a cricket and I have recently bought a Harrisville design 22" loom. I took a few weaving classes at Nezinscot Farm in Turner and got hooked Laughing

Currently working on scarfs with 100% bamboo yarn from Cotton Clouds.

I live in New Gloucester.
