Just wanted to share a picture of how I dressed the back of my Lillstina floor loom.  The Lillstina looms require the warp to go around the bottom metal bar.  I kept my lease sticks in place to keep the warp organized as it approached the string heddles.

I also have a Lillstina floor loom. Took me a while to get it working well, but then, I only paid $150 for it a few years ago. Yours looks to be in better shape than mine. They do hold a wicked tension tho, with that lower bar! Have fun! Jerri

Hi,

I am needing some help threading a Lillstina 4 shaft floor loom. I read that using the metal bar helps with tension but am unsure just how to do this. I have used a floor loom before but this particular design is foreign to me!  A photo if available would be much appreciated. Thank you in anticipation.

You are so right ... the Lillstina has "wicked good" tension!  I love working with it!

I have had one since 1976.  Great loom that I use all the time.  Still have original string heddles!  Happy weaving on yours!

I never had aprons when I purchased my Lillstina. Now that I've read over posts I realize that there are so many things I've been not utilizing on this loom. I would like to use the back bottom bar for tention, as I An to be weaving 21meter warps. If anyone has time please explain warping from back. How do I wind the warp onto the back beam before threading the heddle? THANKS for all these comments.

This is my book on warping and it would be a great help to you with your Lillstina loom.  The warping process has enough steps and parts, that this book would be a great help to you.  We send it with every floor loom that we sell.

I bought my used Lillstina about 3 yrs. ago, but there were no instructions or assembly directions. Witht the help of an engineering friend, I think I've got it close to being able to warp, except for 2 things: I am having trouble tying up the shaft horses so that they are exactly level (are they supposed to be?) and, I don't know how to determine which treadles to attach to which shafts (or is that det. by your pattern?). Thank you for any advice you could share.  Also, what is the title of your book & where is it available? star619

I have had my loom for little over a yr, I am surprised at all the cool info on this site about the lillstinia. and the pictures are super. I finally dressed my loom solo. LOL. I used the 'sample' out of Debra Chandles book, altho I have a few boo boo's lol I am having fun with ideas as I " throw my shots"..lol I like that phrase. thanks everyone to the good advice you offer. I had not thought of putting a apron on my as it did not have one when i got it, this is my first loom.

I've just started my own restoration of a Lillstina floor loom. Does anyone have any suggestions for finishing the light maple wood? I used tung oil on the shafts but they came out quite dark. I think they are a different wood than the frame?

Hello,

I am new here and I am really glad to read that there is a "community" weaving on Lillstina. Are there any Germans weaving on Lillstina? It seems to be an "American"loom with swedish roots.
I bought a Lillstina several weeks ago and finally I have a place to start weaving. To be honest I am a little bit spoiled by using an ARM Selectron floor loom at the studio of my universtiy. But it is not affordable for students to have an electronic loom. Not now but soon.  I think there will be a lot of question coming up but I feel the Lillstina is going to be a very good friend of mine...

My first question(s) is (are): It is recommended to use the "extra" bottom metal bar. So how much more warp should I plan? For example, I want to weave a  2 meters long cloth, how much more warp I have to add before warping?

And why is it better to use the metal bar?

Hello, did you find a way to level the shafts? I am afraid I will have the same problems in the beginng...

NiFu, I am sorry I am so late in responding, I've spent every day for the last 3 weeks trying to dress the loom. I finished tonight! I found that if I tied up the horses first to the shafts, the shafts will straighten out. Next, I tied the lams to the botttoms of the shafts. Then I tied up the treadles to the the lams.

Before I did any of this, I mixes Murphy's Oil in a small bowl of fairly warm water. I soaked a cloth & wrang it out as much as I could. I wiped down the entire castle, including the grooves that the shafts slide up & down in. I, also, wiped down the boards of the shafts. After letting everything dry for a few hours, I applied a coat of Kramer's Best Antique Improver (816-252-9512). It's wonderful for freshing up old wood, iron (bottoms of old sewing machines, old irons,  etc.), aluminum, etc. I placed heavy rubberbands around the ends of the shafts where the metal rods are because mine kept coming loose. I read in one book that the final adjustments to the loom cannot be made, or checked, until the loom is threaded or dressed. I took that on faith & just proceeded. The dressing of the loom did help a great deal. I guess its like trying on new shoes without lacing them up first. Don't get discouraged. Just keep on working at it! Let me know if 3any of this was useful, or if I was too late with my response. Good luck, star619

Thanks for your response star619!

I quickly figured out how the Lillstina works and I do really love this loom! I will never give it back - my dream is a Louet Magic Dobby- but Lillstina will be forever with me. And it seems to be a rare loom in Europe, most of the information I found in English.

One thing I have to figure out is that the knots (I use a special countermarch-thread) connecting the treadles and the lams are not very satisfying- I think I will replace them and use instead Texsolv-pegs. Does somebody have some advices?

So far this is my first piece with samples. Even tubes/double weave is possible!

Does anyone know where the raddle is supposed to go on a Lillstina table loom?   Pictures would be great!!
