Hello,

I recently purchased a Structo 240 with 4 shafts and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.  Am I correct that it would have 60 heddles per shaft?  The heddles are rusty on the one I purchased and I'm not sure how many are on it.  If I need to purchase new ones are they difficult to find?

Thanks for your help!

Yes I think they are. I saw some at Rhinebeck and could kick myself for not buying them. Good luck. BTW youust have gotten your 240 by now. How are you enjoying it?

60 per shaft for a total of... (drum roll please) 240!

That's why the little metal ones were called 240s. If you have 4 shafts, it's a 240-4 and you can guess what 240-8 is!

Also, I believe heddles are still available from Serendipity Farms. They have a website, and I think are located in West Virginia. (They vend at both Rhinebeck and Maryland Sheep & Wool) Buy what you need now, because I am not sure they are going to produce a second batch once this quantity is gone.

Daryl blogged that she was trying out texsolve heddles for her Structos.  Has anyone else tried them and met success?  If so, details please.

Don't mix metal and texsolv heddles on the same shaft. (A guildmate tried this, and was NOT happy with her results.)

GowdeyReed.com makes reeds to fit the structo. You can purchase extra heddles for the Structo 240 from the source below.  She found someone with the original template the original steel, and they are nice and new and shiny.  Daryl   Mary Scott Serendipity Farm & Studio 980 Cypress Chapel Rd. Here's another heddle question.  The sample I want to do will require approximately 90 heddles per shaft.  That may not be viable.  Anyone have experience loading up the Structo with more than 60 heddles per shaft?

How wide is the piece in the reed? The 240 is supposed to handle 8 inches but I don't know about 90.

Alison (not verified)

It will be the full 8 inches.  The total number of heddles would then be 360 (90 per shaft * 4).

I don't know. Its set up for a max of 30 dpi and the original thread that goes with that is similar to 20/2 cotton so if you're using something that thin or thinner it'll probably be okay. You'll probably have to be careful of abrading the selvedge ends. Maybe someone else knows from experience. What are you making anyway?

Basket weave 20/2 cotton yardage.  My gut tells me that 90 heddles will be too tight in that little space and my mind has been toying with ways of threading with the shafts removed.  But I figured I'd ask as someone out in Weavoland almost undoubtedly would have tried this.

sally orgren

I think this might be tight. Are you willing to try it anyway? Is this a short sample? You might be able to do something short, but I would worry about abrading after too many inches.
