Has anyone tried to convert a 2 shaft Hammett to a 4 shaft?  My husband is trying to do this with our loom. He is having trouble with getting it balanced. It may be that his new shafts are lighter than the original shafts. Pushing on the treadles doesn't allow the other shaft treadle to raise up-I know that counterbalanced looms are difficult to get balanced but he is getting flustrated with this one.

Thanks,amy

Are the counter balances tied right? Shaft 1 and 2 on one balance and 3 and 4 on another? Then tied mirror-image on the other end?

Hi Amy,

Tell him to read the second file here:

Thanks for the advice, but he has finally got everything balanced, I am expecting some great rugs from this conversion.
