I'm digging up and going through all my old treadle hooks and am noticing that the ones that have come with the last two Macombers that I've bought are much longer than the others. I thought I already had two different sizes-for CPs and Bs, but these are even longer. What is the length of both the old style heddle hooks and the super hooks for the Macomber Bs? Perhaps an analogous question might be: What is the optimum distance from the front of the treadle to the floor? Thanks.

You are right. I was tieing up the loom and had a mixture of silver hooks and black hooks and the new super hooks. When Cheryl got to weaving she started to complain that the shafts where all lifting to different heights. I replace all the hooks to silver one and that took care of the problem. I guess this is a question for Sarah.

Dena,

If it helps, I bought some super hooks last year from Macomber.  I have a B5.  The hooks are 7.3 inches long.

For those of us with a Macomber fetish, who can't keep their hooks straight (!!)...the CP hooks are 6 1/4", the B5 hooks (B models that are 40" and under) are 7 1/4", the B4 hooks (48" and 56") looms are 7 3/4". The extra ones that I've got and can sell are CP hooks.

One other thing I learned recently about hooks...I was under the misconception that there were different lengths so that hooks on the front harnesses were shorter than the hooks on the rear harnesses...not true...they should all be the same length.

Thank you Dena, that was very useful information. I guess that is why I have hooks that are different sizes.
