I seem to have accidentally bought an old sears loom.  It seems to be a fairloom, same as the newcomb studio loom, 4 shaft, 6 treadles.  I'm not sure when I'll get around to getting it fixed up as we'll be moving in the next little bit.  I just finished revamping my Union 36 and it seems to be doing fairly well.  I had said I was going to wait until I had rugs on the two shaft consistent before buying anything with more shafts.  I bid a minimal amount on it on Ebay and forgot totally about it.  Got an email tonight.....Congratulation on your new loom!

Here's the beater bar top rail from the fairloom, the top of the reed looks about the same.  My husband says he can build a replacement, complete with built in weight bar.  Now to build a fire under him to get it done!

Well, I can see you've got the firewood to start the process.

Hi jenjscott. My beater looked much the same as yours on my Harald Marquardsen loom. Here is the one I built to replace it. Notice the top rail is a section or Oak hand rail. The bottom rail and pivot arms are of three 3/4" boards laminated together. The hand rail is usually a laminated piece also, and will reduce the chances of warping. At the bottom is a pivot that can be adjusted forward and aft, up and down to find that sweet spot. No weight was necessary for my rug weaving as the beater is already very substantial. Good luck on the move and your new loom. Frank.

My husband has aquired a handrail for the beater bar, and I have a new reed.  I have been doing a little cleanup every now and then.  Now, tell me if this mess (all the those long rusty screws) can be replaced with something else?  You can see where the mud daubers filled in the holes!

Hi jen scott. If you want to replace those long  studs you may buy threaded rod, and nuts locally, or on-line at: "The Nutty Company". You can also consider using Texsolv tie up cord which is easily adjustable. Earthguild.com comes to mind. Frank.
