Hello--

I am a new WIF 'n Proof user, and just tried desiging my first WIF. As the project I am designing is a weft-faced rug, I don't want the warp threads to show when I view the fabric, but I haven't been able to figure out how to achieve that. Can the program adjust for the size and spacing of the warp and weft threads, and calculate what the coverage would be? Or alternatively, can you tell it to make the fabric weft-faced or warp-faced, or weft-dominant, etc.?

Thanks!

Ruth

If you want to do simulation - which is what displaying various sized threads, covering warp or weft - you need PC software with that capability.

PCW Fiberworks shows thick and thin threads, lets you define thread thickness with a point system, and allows display of warp or weft faced fabric.

Weavepoint allows definition of thread thickness and whether or not the thread fills the space between threads - also has a fabric view with shading that shows a realistic image of how the cloth will look after weaving.

There are others, but I don't own them and know the full feature sets.

Hi Ruth,

WIF 'n Proof does not currently distinguish between thick and thin yarns - perhaps in the future but for now it displays all yarns with the same thickness.  The threading and treadling charts, however, are accurate for assistance when at the loom.

Thanks, Helen. When I can get it to work, selecting the light gray for the warp seems to give a view similar to a weft-faced fabric. But more often than not, when I select that, I get a message saying I haven't selected a warp color.

Ruth, after you selet light gray for the warp, you also have to assign it to all warp threads.  See page 24 in the manual for instructions.
