Just think of the nice wide blankets! Alas, I'm a shortie. That's wider than my wingspan!

Connie thanks for posting the loom here. I also posted the information on the for sale section.

Debbie, you could add a fly shuttle to this loom. That is a great price. Cheryl would kill me if I purchased a other loom.

andsewon (not verified)

I cannot believe it is still there! Go for it, Michael!

Michael White

You didn't read the part about Cheryl killing me if a buy a other loom.

andsewon (not verified)

ehhhhh........she's all talk. She's bluffing! Go for it! (evil grin) Connie who would nail that in a hearbeat if she had a place to put it.

Michael White

what do I need with a 10H 56 inch loom. When I have a 56 inch 16H one already.

Michael

Yeah, I could bid $500 and then have to rent a storage unit to house it. Or, did you mean that I could bid for YOU? So Cheryl wouldn't know? hehehe connie

Michael, I just sent someone your direction who is looking for parts for a 48". Specifically, they want harnesses, but not sure if there was anything else. Connie

Hi everyone,

I am the very fortunate soul who was able to purchase this loom.  I won't be able to pick it up for a while (needing to coordinate strong men & a truck) but I'm very excited and can't wait to get it home.  I've never woven on a Macomber, but have only heard great things about them, so I may be asking some questions once I get my hands on it.

Michael White

She was dying to know who purchased this loom. I live in Georgia and if you like I could pick-up this loom for you. I can load this loom by myself. I have moved two other 56 inch Macombers. Just a thought. An welcome to the group.

Fibrefare, So glad that you posted to the group. That looks like a fantastic loom at an unbelievable price! Can't wait till you get it home! Connie

I've finally gotten my new loom home!  Now I need to do some cleaning & other maintenance before I can start weaving.

Does anyone have any favorite problem solving web sites? (I'm not aware of any problems yet--just want to be prepared.)

Thanks,

Debbie

Debbie, glad you got your loom home. You are on the best place to ask questions about your Macomber. You can also look at Sarah's (Macomber's sales rep) blog pages about Macomber looms

Michael, I appreciate all of the information.  I have bookmarked Sarah's site and I have been reading many of the posts in this group. Someone should compile all of this great restoration information into a book!

I do have a question--as I shop around I have noticed that Macomber looms are not listed in many of the types of looms a part will work with. i.e. replacement reeds or heddles. Do I need to purchase everything from Macomber?

Debbie

Yes, you will generally need to purchase parts from Macomber or have them made. They tend to be more rugged compared to most. Fortunately, Macomber is able to supply parts for any of their looms, and does not charge unreasonable amounts.  I had no trouble getting parts for my 50 year old Mac. Expect whatever you get to last as long as you and the loom...

As far as reeds and heddles you can purchase them anywhere you can find them. The reeds on the Macomber need to fit in a slot on the beater. As far as I can tell Macomber's prices for reeds and heddles are as good as anyones.  As Laurie stated for parts to the loom itself Macomber has them and will work with you in IDing the right part.

The best part about contacting Macomber for parts is that they all fit properly. If you want to add harnesses, just call Eddie, give him the number on your loom and he can track it for you. You will also get the correct harnesses for adding in the correct order. The holes are slightly different when going up in harnesses. Have fun with your new mac.

The seller is making a mistake by putting a shipping price when it's really "local pickup only."

andsewon (not verified)

Boy, do I feel like a dunce! lol strange thing is, I KNOW this, so why did my brain short out? You are right on the shipping. It is confusing. But then, ebay's shipping calculator is nearly worthless, and it is hard to figure out. Thanks for correcting my post! Connie

Penn (not verified)

Re eBay, though, the seller should have chosen only "local pickup only," which would have disabled any other shipping option. The seller refuses to ship, but the way this is listed, the seller is obligated to ship that loom for $100 anywhere in the country. I've kind of reached the end of my patience with people who put stuff up on eBay as if it were Craigslist and think they can make up their own rules. But that's a rant for another day, and site. In the meantime, have you seen the recent post on Sarah's blog? It's not by her--she reposted the text and photos of a message from someone who rehabbed his wife's new-to-her Mac. He seems to have reengineered some functions, and I was interested in what other people think of his "improvements." He doesn't hesitate to identify some of the weaknesses of the loom's design, and although I'm a little skeptical about some of the fixes--which are pretty inelegant--I like his verve and no-holds-barred attitude. Hopefully, if the tieups start popping off his wife's loom, he'll come up with a nifty solution he's willing to share. It'd be nice to know who he is so he could be invited to come here.

He went all the way on redoing this Macomber. Right down to casting his own jacks. Great job. The one thing that bugs me about the Macomber beater is the fact that the reed has to sit in a slot. If that slot was made to run all the way across you could used a oversize reed with out having to cut them down. I keep telling Cheryl I am going to rework the beater, but there are only so many hours in the day. and my to-do list keeps getting longer.

Hi folks,

I have to sell the loom that started this thread and I wanted to start the process with the group who love these looms. Due to 2 knee surgeries and other health matters, I haven't had the pleasure of using it since I first purchased the loom & now we have moved into a house where it just isn't practicle to use.

First, a bit of an update--the loom in the ad is not the loom I received when I picked it up.  This is loom #3884 B-4 from Saugass, MA. It is 48" wide with 10 shafts and 14 treadles and sectional double back beams. Included in the sale will be a LeClerc spool rack--holds 48 wooden spools and all are present, the 3 reeds that came with the loom as well as 3 brand new 46" stainless steel reeds, and several pounds of heddles.  I have gone through the heddles and sorted them by type & I have cleaned, counted, and batched 850 flat steel heddles, so whomever gets the loom will be able to use it right away. I will also be including a print copy of "Sarah Haskell's Macomber Looms Manual".

The loom is in Paragould, Arkansas--about 80 miles northwest of Memphis, TN.  Whomever purchases the loom will have to pick it up, it is much to heavy to try to ship.

Please either pm me on Ravelry or send me an email for additional information.  I will be taking pictures a bit later today--when the sun comes out--and they will be available on request.

Debbie
