Hello,

My name is Peg and I am from Minnesota.  I have been lurking around the site for a while trying to soak up information on weaving.  I started out with a rigid heddle loom and have been learning to make scarves.  I recently became the owner of a Leclerc Meco 4 harness jack loom thanks to an early Christmas present from my DH.  Whew, it almost scares me!   lol  Trying to determine what I'm going to use to wrap my warp and then tackle dressing it for the first time.   Going to start pretty darn simple and try some mug rugs to get the feel of the loom.  This is a wonderful site full of information and helpful members.  I look forward to being a part of your site.  Happy Weaving!

Nice to meet you Peg! I've been a lurker for quite some time too. This is my year to set some study challenges for myself and I hope to post the results on this site for feedback and encouragment. I look forward to seeing your work posted as you get better aquainted with your new loom!

If you don't have a warping board or mill you might want to make your warps the way lots of tablet weavers do it.  Attach C-clamps upside down to a counter or a table or to any stable furniture or window sills that are the right distance apart.  Wind the yarn in figure 8's around the posts of the clamps.  When finished, tie the ends and run your finger from the ends toward the middle to neaten and tie the cross.  Remember to guard against damaging furniture with the clamps by putting something like cardboard or a strip of wood between the clamp and the surface.

Bonnie.

Nice to meet you!  I wish I lived closer but I'm 7 miles north of the Iowa border and 150+ miles from the Cities so unfortunately I can't make it up there for classes.  Wished I could as it would help me learn a lot faster than I am right now.  I need to find some good reference books but I stopped at the library and they had nothing so I'll search the MN Library network and see what I find.

Welcome, Peg!

Check here for the beginning weaving class here on Weavolution. Also, if I could only own one weaving book, it would be Mary E. Black's Key to Weaving (on Amazon for $8).

Happy weaving!

Carie
