This looks terrific, and you are on well down the road to discovering "color and weave" effects! (if you search that term or look it up weaving books, you might get even more ideas for the "what if's") Amazing things can be done with plain weave and just varying the yarn/stripe order in your warp and weft with just two shafts. (i.e. using a single heddle).

Keep playing! Try substituting another color for the one you may not have enough of—a similar value color, a textured yarn, or even something drastically different. And DO play with that AAABB sequence a bit. (Shhh... This is really the SECRET to what makes weaving so fun—you get to make up the rules as you go, AND play as you go along!)

P.S. Technically, it looks nicely spun AND sett well, too!

Notes

OK,

so on this experiment I'm trying to consciously create a pattern - and to better understand how the heddles and warp & weft work together to create patterns. I've done some reading on Drafts (thanks to the Bellweather) and I've rummaged around my books and leaflets, as well as read some bits and pieces on our RH forum here. And well . . . I'm still very confused - BUT believe that once I start experimenting, all of this information will start to make some sense. So . . . off we go and lets see what happens.

I'm describing this as an AAABB pattern because of a snippet I read that created a lovely pattern and the blogger said to be sure that the weft went in the same colour order as the warp in order to create the pattern. I might play with this a bit as well to see what variations one can make by playing with the ordering but first I've got to warp up.

Pics will come once I've got something on the loom to show you (grin).

4 Oct - late edition

right so warped up and a few rows done. I "think" I can see a pattern . . .hmmmm . . will post pics tomorrow-ish.

5 Oct - morning weaving

so we've now got a pic, and as you may be able to see there "is" a pattern. I would have liked it to have been bolder, more pronounced. One possible reason that it is not is that the yarns are bi-coloured. I may have not given enough warp strands to the red-blue yarn (I have a very limited amount of this yarn so was being conservative in my use). Finally it may simply have been that I need to use the second heddle. Suggestions welcome. I'm still pleased with the way its shaping up - I just hope I have enough of the red-blue yarn (I "may" have enough roving to spin some more).
