This is from a pattern in Self Discovery Through Free Weaving - a Saori style poncho.

The weaving is in 8/4 and 8/2 cottons.  It is easy to sew and comfy to wear.

Happy Weaving!

hi Terri, this is a beautiful poncho; And the model is showing it so well:)looks like not to much cutting and sewing is involved so none off the weaving got lost.

Thanks Jeannine!  Yes, it is very easy to make.  One long piece of cloth is cut into two pieces and that's all the cutting.  The neck opening is made by just leaving part of a seam open.  Selvedge edges are used in most places so there is no hemming.

That is beautiful, and looks very comfortable to wear. It made me look up Saori, I had never come across the term before. Tempting to try it out. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ellen,

Well, I hope that you have fun exploring and learning about Saori weaving.  Let me know if you have any questions.

The poncho is comfortable and could be made of many different materials.

Happy Weaving,

Terri

thanks Terri, I might just take you up on that one day. Did you use a pattern from a book for the poncho sewing? or do you just invent that as you go, too?

The poncho is based on a pattern in a book "Self Discovery Through Free Weaving".  The book has many simple patterns for sewing clothing from woven cloth up to 24 inches wide.   I see the patterns as guidelines or starting points to make clothing - changing things to suit your own style.

They are all very simple seams, minimal cutting with brilliant origami-style folding to make great asymetric designs.

Happy Weaving,

Terri
