I wove this Chasuble  some years ago, and when I should describe details about it,  I got some few problems.  It says something about my system of making notes and write it out properly : /

The technique used in this project was Samitum; a basic weave: unequal-sided  twill with an inner-warp.  The motives were free-hand made, drawn on  transparency film and picked up in the warp as the weaving progressed.  Since the weft for each color used in the motif, passed through the whole width of the warp,  the fabric could end up quite sturdy.  I used a finer silk thread in the motif,  but these threads had to cover the warp threads also. I had to find a balance here  The technique Samitum,  has an extra inner-warp that´s not threaded ,  It just lays there stable, but it is in this warp you pick up the motif.  It is wise to have this warp on a separated warping-mill if that is possible, because  there will be different tensions on the warp threads as the weaving progresses.

Thank you for sharing your work!  I'm not really sure how you do the bird, so if you add more details about your project, I would love to read about it!

Hello KBIRD !

I have now tried to describe my project with more details,  and I hope that you understand the process better !  I found it quite difficult to describe the weaving-technique in my own language, and even more difficult in another language, so please forgive me if this explanation is incomprehensible !

I subscribed on an American magazine;  Weaver´s some years back,(excellent magazine)  and I can refer to an article called; Sumptuous samitum ,  by nancy Arthur Hoskins, that explains this pick-up technique quite good. Maybe not so good to look up,  but...!  Freeform pick-up can really bring forth amazing patterns on only four shafts !  But ,it is time consuming though !

Dear AneJe,

Your chauble and rostrum textile is devine, if I may call it so. Beautifull dove with the olive branch. I get more interested in samitum by the way. Got a bit more insight.

This is quite beautiful and a great combination of techniques. Thanks for sharing with us. It is an inspiring piece of weaving. I hope the wearer appreciates it! Alison
