bolivian warmi

Nice job and such pretty colors. What size cotton are you using? This pattern us called "mayo k'enko" in Chinchero, Peru and "linquito" in Cochabamba, Bolivia. It probably has other names too as I have seen it in so many places.

All of the cotton was 5/2 mercerized except the dark red. It was cotton rug warp and a little bit larger that the 5/2. It made that side a slight bit wider.

Thank you for the information on the pattern names. I am intrigued by all of the designs that have evolved throughout the world and have a book called Handbook of Regular Patterns: An Introduction to Symmetry in Two Dimensions by Peter S. Stevens published by the MIT Press in 1980. You would love it. It is a treasure trove of inspiration. I got it at a used book sale but copies still appear to be available on the internet.

I started my next backstrap project this morning.

Notes

This is the third of Laverne's pebble weave lessons. I had a few setbacks at the beginning, including losing the cross; but once I got going, things started falling into place. I was able to know what row came next without following the chart. And, as you can see in the second photo, my edges improved. The 36" warp resulted in a 29" woven length plus a 1 1/2" knotted fringe at each end. Tomorrow I start a new one!
