Hi all. Okay, I read a ton and talked about the COE and believe that it is for me.

My husband and I are now completing my new fiber arts studio- 1,152 square feet! I will at least have the room to work.

I'm wondering if there is anyone out there just beginning the journey also?

I often plan on trying, but get put off by the written work.  And congrats on your new studio.  It's bigger than my house!  Which is a good thing, since you will be spending a lot of time there weaving your COE samples!

What an adventure you are embarking on!

You don't say where you are from, but definitely put it out there both locally and "virtually" that you are looking for some buddies.

Some of us would love it if you keep us in the loop on your progress, or alert us when you make project posts.

I have been so impressed with COE recipients and their work. I have always enjoyed looking at the samples at past Convergences. (Even better if I get to meet the accomplished weavers in person!)

I am assuming you are doing the COE study in weaving – not spinning, dyeing, or basketmaking – is that correct?

Yes, please do keep in touch.  And we would love to see some photos of your samples.

I'm in Montana. Yes, I am just BEGINNING to work on a COE in weaving.

I have a very long way to go. I'm thinking it will probably take 6 years- 4 if I'm lucky. I figured I'd post this early in the process to make my commitment "official". Also, hoping to find fellow adventurers!

No samples yet. That might take a year or so....

I'm glad to see interest in HGA's COE in weaving.  I completed and passed Level I in 2002 and Level II in 2004.  It is an accomplishment I'm very proud of . . . I learned so much!  It also helped me improve in areas (e.g., documentation) and provide affirmation of what I knew . . . and also, what I didn't know.

I applaud anyone tackling the effort.  The HGA guidelines booklet for the COE in weaving really helped me take inventory of the things I knew, knew a little, and made me wonder "Huh?"

Thanks Robyn! Very encouraging words!

I met you back at the Covergence in Long Beach 2012 when I attended the meeting about the CEO. You were very helpful explaining what to expect. I have thought about it since then, and finally decided to jump. You are coming to our conference in Montana this summer and I have signed up for both the classes you will be teaching. I plan on picking your brain!!

Programs such as the COE are great.  I did the Guild of Canadian Weavers program, and am now teaching for the Olds College (Alberta) program.  They aren't easy, but they are very rewarding, I think.

Dmalhert,  I also completed and passed both COE levels, the COE Level ll in 1996. So long ago ! I echo Laura and Robyn's sentiments ! It was a great experience!

there is a group on Weavolution for people working on the COE and CoA ( the British Certificate ) contact Erica J if you would like to join it. I think it would be very helpful!

Best Luck to you and enjoy the journey !

Dmalhert, I'm doing the COE too. Just finished my huck lace sampler. Now I've got the color blanket on my 4 shaft and Swedish lace on the 8 shaft
