I hate to be a pest always asking questions, but I would like to try weaving a few rag rugs and am not sure of which shuttle I should buy - a rag rug shuttle or a ski shuttle and if I should be concerned about the size of the shuttle in regards to the shed.  I'm using a 48" Macomber but  it isn't warped so I can't accurately determine the shed dimensions and thought that Macomber people would be the best people to ask.  Would appreciate any input.

Thx.

do is run a string from the back beam through a heddle and the reed and tie off on the front. Pull everything tight. You can then lift the heddle frame to give you an idea about the size of the shed.

Thanks.  Great idea!  I guess that's why you run the forum :>

Sooner or later you'll reach the end of the warp and have to cope with a shallow shed.  I have both a ski shuttle and a rag shuttle and, as far as I can tell, they are interchangeable.  The ski shuttle is slightly lower in profile but both taper at the ends so either one can be pushed through a surprisingly narrow shed.

I also have both shuttles --  rag & ski.  I rarely use the ski in this house because it is long and can't turn in the space between the loom (or the edge of the warp) and the wall on one side.  If fully "loaded" my ski shuttle holds more weft with less of its surface area there to drag on the warp.  On the other hand, if you really do have a very narrow shed (like at the end of the warp) the rag shuttle is less likely to catch on warp.

Under normal circumstances my Macomber's shed is about twice as high as you need for the shuttle, so I wouldn't worry.

Thanks mnleigh -

I ordered the large Lecler ski shuttle but it's good to know I can use either on my Macomber.  Thanks for sharing.  So many details..
