After taking a towel class with Susan Wilson, I wound a 15 yard warp to play around with 8 shaft huck. Using the design tools she gave us, I designed several patterns on graph paper and played with the treadling as I went. I wound up with 21 towels, each roughly 12x22, except for one (in the middle, I must have mismeasured) that came out much shorter. I wove about half of the towels with the same yarn I warped with, and the other half I wove with 7/2 that was a slightly darker and duller color. I like how just a small amount of contrast gives them more depth.
Most important lesson learned: Double-check your liftplan when you think you are done transcribing the drawdown. I had a few "surprise" pattern variations because of missed shafts on a row or 2. I did like the patterns that resulted, though, and since they were not symmetrical I probably would not have come up with them on purpose.
