Ooohh how exciting! I had once made an experiment with newspaper. But the paper was not stable enough. But that also depends on the newspaper itself ( I need another publishers newspaper). The comic papers excerp I really like, because it shows a beautiful mottled surface.

The newspaper was very soft. I used a highwhorl spindle as a support spindle ( just barely resting on a flat surface) to spin it.

Notes

Selvage threads doubled, floating selvage, linen warp sized. The paper was woven damp. It was surprisingly hard to keep the selvages even. The coaster fringe was fixed in place with a Phillipine finish and left with sizing in. The coasters without plant inclusions were ironed on a linen setting. All fringes were ironed.
