If i had a space-dyed yarn is it possible for me to lightly add a tone over the yarn to cast a uniform hue on it, without losing my space dyed technique? if so, would i just put the space dyed yarn in a vat of diluted solid color? Just curious....

Thanks.

Yes you can overdye.

How you do it would depend on what yarn, what dye you used, what dye you intend to use. It might be best to experiment with a smaller amount of yarn - alot of work goes into a whole warp & you want to have some control over what might happen. To get an all-over dye, using a vat would probably give better coverage. I know the procion dye sheets give formulas for making lighter & darker colors. These are available at the dye and at the sellers site on-line & in many dye books.

I think you will want to use a very tiny amount of your overdye.  I've found that dye goes a long way when overdyeing.  I've never tried to add a tone though.  I'm usually doing something like adding yellow to change a blue I don't like green, so I'm not too worried about ruinning the yarn.
