Fulled Gathering scarf

Challenge for the Northeast Handspinners Gathering. Fibers supplied to each participant and we could do what we wanted with the fibers. With the limited amount of fiber and colors supplied, a plaid scarf called out to me. Yarns were spun semiwoolen at 12 wraps per inch. I used a dummy warp to minimize the waste and applied gelatin sizing. The scarf was wet finished thoroughly with Orvis to full it and brushed vigorously with a hand card.

From this wet finishing experience, I have learned to twist the fringe, but leave it long while finishing. Due to the different fibers used ( some were merino, some much coarser wool, some alpaca ), the fringe shrank at different rates.
