Cotton Placemats with Leno

This is my first project as a weaver. I intended to use the pattern for Liz Gepson's Everyday Placemats from her Interweave video, but it's just too plain. I have The Weaver's Idea Book so I took the border details from the Linen Placemats with Leno and Spanish Lace. My first 'discovery' as a weaver is that Spanish lace doesn't look very good on a heavy warp and weft - yikes! After I'd done the first border section of the Linen Placemats draft, the thing was already 8.5" long (or I'm really bad at Spanish Lace). So I unwove back to the leno section, did 16" plain weave, and repeated the border. So far, so good; photos to come.
