Delicate pattern! I love the sheen of the Sulky! Really beautiful!

The bands are beautiful!

I'm interested in the threads you used.   The Sulky 12 wt cotton is a serger / embroidering sewing thread, correct?   I'm wondering what this is similar to in terms of the yarn sizes weavers are familiar with.   Is it like a 20/2, or finer than that?

You are correct that the Sulky 12 wt is a heavier sewing thread.  Their web site says it is the equivalent of 2 strands of DMC embroidery floss, although I think it's closer to one strand, and of course, it it much more tightly twisted.  I got 60 wpi when I wrapped a ruler, although I'm admittedly awful at that measurement, so I think it's close to a 20/2.

Dear Rose,

Thank you for sharing the tips about tying off using beeswax.  I use it all the time when handsewing, but i would not have thought to use it with weaving thread- very smart!!

Very nice design.  I'm working on a tablet-woven ramshorn design right now also.  I'm using KnitPicks Curio crochet cotton.  It looks a bit different from yours, I found the pattern posted on Facebook, it has 20 cards and four of them are turned on their vertical axis every four turns.  It's coming along nicely.  Do you have your cards threaded with a single thread through each hole or is it doubled?

Thank you for sharing,

Janean

The tablets have a single thread through each hole.  There are many, many variations on the basic Ram's Horn theme.  I'm hoping to play around with many more.

And now a new source for colors and threads!

So delicate and skillfully woven. Have been wanting to buy silk in a wide variety of colors but in quantity the cost has been prohibitive. Will now try 12 wt serger thread. Many thanks for sharing, tips and the inspiration.

Notes

Inspiration for color came from Sally Orgren.  I used red, gold and purple.  Band pattern is from the Ram's Horn Sample Exchange in TWIST Spring 2013, by Dianne Wood.  She wove hers in Gutermann sewing thread so that inspired me to try some Sulky 12 wt cotton I had purchased a while back. This thread is pure pleasure to weave with- doesn't tangle or twist.
Thread:  Sulky 12 wt cotton713-1147 Christmas Red 713-1124 Sun Yellow 713-1299 - Purple Shadow 24 cards (Laci's) Ashford Inklette (don't like the tensioning device on this, but using a rubber band to stabilize it helps). Size of finished band: 1/2" x 64" Used beeswax to wax threads when tying off, made it easier to tie the slippery thread.
