They are very nice towels, I like the variations, I bet you had fun doing them!Why not show us a few close-ups? I would especially like to see the tabs, as I always do them, too, and many people seem surpised to see that. So I am happy to see others do that too :-) Ellen

Hi Ellen, thanks for the compliments!  I saw some towels in the book "Favorite Scandinavian Projects to Weave" that had the inkle loops (or other types of woven loops) on the towels and I thought it was the greatest idea.  I want loops on all my towels now, and the inkle weaving goes so quickly, there's no reason not to add them.

I updated my project with a bunch more photos :)

The hems on my first waffle weave towels were such a disaster! This time, I used 20/2 mercerized cotton for the weft and wove the hems 1.5" long.  After I washed them, they were flaring a bit still, so when I pressed and pinned the hem, I made sure to match the stripe pattern all along the hemmed edge, so as I sewed on the machine, I was able to stretch the waffle part a bit to keep things even.  The towels are still wider at the hems than in the center, but at least there aren't ripples and waves!

Thanks for the details, Carrie. I thought they looked rather Scandinavian! :-) You made lovely waffle weave there, and I also find it a good idea to use thinner yarn for the edges. Ellen

My mother-in-law requested some towels for everyday use, so I pulled some 8/2 cotton off the shelves of my stash, and here they are!  I had intended to do 4 equal sized towels, but I mis-calculated my length and couldn't get the last one quite full size.  I should have made the others a little shorter.  Oh well!  They're still perfectly usable towels.  I also wove a small inkle band to make loops for hanging.
