Can anyone identify the make and model of this loom please.  I suspect it is either a Toika or Varpapuu, but more detail would be appreciated, together with views and opinions on ease of use.

I don't know who made it, but it's obviously a jack loom and therefore should be easy to use.  You will, of course, have to take the bench out before you can use it.  ;-)

Thanks Mrdubyah.  So it's a bench that's in there!!

It looks to me like the top (handtree) portion of the beater is on backwards.  The indentation is for the fingertips that grip the back side of the beater.  If there is a shuttle race hiding on the backside as well, then the whole assembly is on backwards.  The bolts that hold the handtree and reed base should also be facing the other direction if they are carriage bolts that are square at the top, just under the "cap".  It looks like it has an adjustable beater positioning thing on the base, a good thing.

I recognize this loom, as I own one myself- it is a Varpapuu "Polaria" jack loom. Lovely to weave with! The beater is installed as it should be- the indentation is on both sides...

It has no shuttle race?  I thought jack looms had to have shuttle races because the threads on the bottom of the shed are likely to be somewhat slack, alowing the shuttle to fall through.

No, there's no shuttle race, but it doesn't need it I've found. The warp would have to be really really slack before a shuttle would fall through...

I'm a complete newbie.  My wife wants a loom and she saw this one for less than $100.00.  Seller says it needs 2 parts but doesn't know what they are or who made the loom.  Any help here?.jpeg

That photo shows a loom??? that needs serious help. Keep looking - it is a red flag if the seller does not know the maker or model of the loom and "parts are missing" but "it should work".

There are too many used looms of good quality out there - you can easily pass on this one.

Thanks, maybe now I can convince my wife to pass on this one.
