I'm looking for some 60/2 tencel or soy protein, preferably in colors (I will dye if I absolutely must).  Does anyone know of a source for this yarn?

Thanks!

I have some 50/2 soy protein in natural.   It's fairly 'tender' so I would not necessarily use it for warp but as weft it works...

cheers,

Laura

Thanks, Laura.  I'm really looking for yarn I can use as warp with some really fine tram silk as weft.  So apparently soy protein isn't good for that.

Well, not the yarn I have.  It isn't spun very tightly so as I say a bit 'tender' for warp.

cheers,

Laura

How about some 60/2 mulberry spun silk? Michael

I've certainly thought about the silk, Michael - I've been to your site & looked at what you offer.  My primary hesitancy is the fact that I'd have to do the dyeing.  I'd prefer to buy colors, if possible.

THis silk can be custom dyed in over 300 colors or matched to your color. Michael

HI Peg....for the project you and I talked about you could use the regular Soy Protein fiber, which is about a size 16/2. I also have the 50/2 and unless you are used to using fine threads, you might find it tricky to work with.  The 16/2 can be sett at 30-40 epi and will give you a great base for the tram silk you have for weft.

I don' t think there is such an animal as 60/2 Tencel, but I could be wrong.  If there is, I would sure like to know about it.

Another option would be to use rayon or silk sewing thread as your warp.  That could easily be wound from the spools onto a sectional beam.  But you needn't go so fine for your warp, a 40/2 cotton would work, the Soy Protein Fiber would work, 60/2 silk will work.

Hope you find what you want - that silk you showed me is gorgeous!

I've ordered a few colors of 60/2 silk through Michael White (always great prices).  Since I have 4 to-my-eye-luscious colors of the tram I really want to have lots of options.  I've had the silks since the last MAFA and not been able to use them, other than my one REALLY trying effort to use it as both warp & weft.  Tried having a local fiber factory ply some - wouldn't work on her machines.  Tried a fellow guild member ply some on his wheel - and this guy spins about anything - and he said it just wasn't worth it.  So using I'm itching to use it as weft, at least.  I'd rather not use cotton with it, so hoping the colors I've ordered will be stunning with what I have  and it'll all work beautifully.
