I've been asked to weave a 30" x 9 yard tartan. The client would pay $1000. Any tips, opinions a/o suggestions. I've only done a few commissions, certainly never a tartan. I enjoy fine thread weaving but 50epi with a wool may tax my patience. Thanks............

Are you going to be able to find a wool yarn that fine with enough strength for a warp?

Your beat will have to be perfect so that the pattern matches. A traditional tartan is woven in twill with worsted yarns, wet finished in the worsted manner, I.e. absolutely no agitation and a good hard press. Weft colours are simply carried up one selvedge. Cheers Laura

I wove a sample for a sheriffs department submitting a tartan design to the Tartan Society in Edinburgh. I found it pretty challenging . I had to do several samples and really work on the beat to get it square. Mine was woven with Pendelton wool singles. I would not recommend the yarn. I had lots of issues with it but its what they supplied me with so I made it work. Good luck, it can be a fun and challenging thing to weave. I was happy I didn't have weave 9 yards of it though. Thanks everyone. After serious study and consideration, I decided not to accept the commission.
