My guild is doing a poker challenge and my fiber is silk.

Anyone have any advice about what to do or not to do?

Thanks, Patty

our weaving study group is doing a poker challenge too, and we have 5 cards .The cards fall into categories like fiber, weave structure, #shafts, color or fiber, etc.  My 5 are a real doozy of a group:  Spin a special yarn, resist dye the warp, use a double beam, make a double cloth and use a black outline.  That's a tall order but I'll do my best.  Luckily I have a double beam, one sectional and one regular.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

Silks like a slightly acidic wet finishing. You can add a bit of vinegar to your wet finishing water. I have used Gemstone silks from Halcyon Yarn and really like them.

Our poker challenge also included five cards.  Ours were fiber, color, use, type of weave and texture.  So my cards are silk, red, household, crackle weave and fuzzy.   We drew the cards in September and then revisited the challenge in January.  We could draw up to four new cards or hold our cards.   If we held our cards, we could drop one or two.  I dropped the texture card.

So I am weaving with silk using a draft from Davison.  I have done several samples, all in cotton that I already have.  So now I am ready to tackle the silk.
