I did a search and couldn't find anything. How tight does my tension need to be on my warping board. I have started with my stripes and the yarn is very taught. Is this the way it is supposed to be or should I ease up with the yarn?

Also, Do I tie a square knot every time I start a stop a new color? That is what I have been doing.

You don't need high tension, just enough so the threads don't sag. Much more important is that your tension be consistent. I tie an overhand knot. Any knot will do so long as it is secure. You may find the video clips I've loaded to you tube helpful. My user name is lauraannfry1 Cheers Laura

Ok Thanks. I eased up some. It was too tight making the threads hard to move on the dowels.

If you get your warp too tight, it can bend the pegs inward, shortening the threads on the outside - or - if you have a flimsy warping board, break the pegs right off!  Relax!  I tell my students not to hold the yarn between thumb and forefinger because it will lead to tightness due to the strength of the grip.  I let the thread slide under my outer three fingers (middle, ring and pinkie) and over my index finger, gripping only gently with my pinky when necessary.
