I have read that you can warp 2 threads in the one slot to mimic a thicker thread.

In my case, it would be for a Log Cabin design. The instructions for Log Cabin says to use the same thread in wàrp and weft.  One of my selected colors could only be found in a thinner thread. Should I double that color thread in the weft also?

double the warp thread you should probably double the weft as well - I would probably try a sample to see if I like the results with the thinner weft - but to be on the safe side I would probably double the weft.

Thank you for the reminder, endorph. I had read the suggestion to make a cardboard loom to weave samples. It had slipped off my To Do List.
