It's often difficult to discern what variegated yarn will look like when viewing it on a cone. For my reference I made some samples using six different variegated colorways that I recently purchased. Feel free to use these photos as a reference. Colors will be different depending on your monitor but I tried to take as clear and as accurate photos as possible. All the 8/2 variegated Tencel is in the warp. I used weft colors that would show off the warp as much as possible. The Tencel colors are what yarn stores are naming their cones.

Nice colour study. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Laura

samples, what a great idea - it would be intersting to see what they would look like with different color wefts. Have you tried using the warp as wefy to see what the variegated ould look like on itself?

Hi Endorph. I have cones of most solid Tencel colors. When seeing what weft colors worked best with each color, I wove some picks of solid colors to see what it would look like, but black usually won out over everything else in order to emphasis the warp. I haven't tried using warp as weft though.

thank you!  If you plan to do more, I'd love to see Tashkent, Painted Desert, and what color weft works best with Lake. And how Mountain Stream would look with a navy weft and border.  And... and...

...ducking and running...  ;-)
