I do not usually use synthetics in my weaving, but a neighbor donated 4 totes (and I mean LARGE totes) of chenille that is now filling my stash shelves. I was thinking of trying to sell it so that I can obtain material that I am more likely to use, but instead, I decided to use at least some of it to experiment with some "crackle weave" patterns to make a rug or two (or maybe more). So here is a photo of my first project nearly finished. I used a pattern from the Ralph Griswold collection on Handweaving.net. The warp is a beige chenille sett at 7.5 epi. The weft is a rust colored chenille. Size 40" x 68"

Only the hemming remaining to do.

I have not yet put the rug into place because I have not yet hemmed it. However, the chenille feels great to the touch as I handle it. I don't know if it will slide around the floor easily and whatnot, but as soon as I get the finnishing done, I will test it. I am going to make some more using a different crackle pattern soon.
