If put on all four sides the "ruffle" could be a nice feature.  Otherwise, a 2x2 basket might make a better end than plain weave - it takes up about the same rate as the twill.  It sounds like a lovely fabric.

Thanks Laurie - I am definitely going to re-visit this. When I do would you mind if I emailed you the draft for a "quality control" look?

Sure, no problem.  Wif or dtx work.

Notes

I have loved the before and after photos of a fulled 2/2 twill sample in Ann Sutton's book, The Structure of Weaving for a long time.  I decided to use Henry's attic "Texas" to do a version of my own.  I changed it to a point twill with plain weave selvedges.  I observed the first few inches and because the twill was beaten so loosely the plain weave selvedges seemed to be just the right ppi.  Oops. everything looked great until I fulled it to make the very loose structure stable.  The plain weave ruffled right up (as a more thoughtful/experienced/thorough sampler type person might have known).  Anyway, I hemmed the selvedges to minimize the ruffle effect and the twill area is a very soft, warm, supple fabric. Live and learn (or not).
