I am having a hard time getting a good shed and getting a shuttle across my rug warp.  I am using 12/6 seine twine and have the rug sett at 10 epi.  When I try to toss the boat shuttle across with the heading yarn, it falls between warp threads to the floor.  I lashed on and the tension felt good to start with.  I am at almost the full width of my cloth beam, 39".  I am uncertain what to do.  The sample is done and I will have photos soon.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

This might sound silly, but is your warp wrapped around the knee beam correctly? - sometimes, when i pull my front beam apron up to tie on i skip that step and it creates "issues". Hope it's that easy - because it's an easy fix.

Have you threaded four shafts?  Is the bottom of the shed flat?  Did you tighten the tension tight?

Did you change anything on the tie-up since your last warp?

Mary nailed it.  I failed to go over the knee beam.  I'll take the sample off later today and fix that.  Hopefully, it will answer the tension problems.

I'll post photos anyway later.

Claudia, who is feeling very dumb.  Here are some photos.  Is my sett too close.  On to the next problem now that we have settled my tension issue.

We've all missed a front or back beam once in our warp time. It's one of those things you only do once.!

With 12/6 seine twine I'd use 7,5 epi (30-10 metric). That is the traditional scandinavian way. But of course it depends if you want to show off your warp or your rags.

Good luck

Sometimes the shuttle falling to the floor has to do with the technique used to throw the shuttle. If using a boat shuttle, the angled side of the boat should be next to the reed. Aim **slightly** upward and throw the shuttle towards the reed so the angled end hits the reed then straightens the shuttle so it can travel across the weft. Even the slightest angle downward can cause the shuttle to dive through the warp. A good, sharp throw towards the reed will make all the difference. Takes a short while to practice, but once you get it, it will seem very easy. Su :-)
