I want to make a tablecloth, and do not want the sheen of mercerized cotton, but want something harder spun than unmercerized.  I bought a loom with an interesting, firm, strong, slightly shiny warp on it that I have tentatively identified as 10/2 ringspun rayon, which would be perfect.  I can't find a source for this.  Does anyone have a source for this rayon or any other ideas as to fiber?  I am thinking of Swedish lace.  Linen is too expensive, cotolin is usually a little heavier than I'd like, and also expensive.

is tightly spun and plied.  The 16/2 comes in colors and is commonly used for table cloths.  Linen or any other thread can be used for the weft.  Rayon is not a very strong fiber and does not hold up as well with a lot of washing, so I would pass on that.

Brassard's only carry rayon mixed with silk or and non table cloth yarns like 3 and 6 plied rayon slub or flake (no colors) or chenille (14 colors). Brassard's has nice 16/2 cotton and Borgs 16/2 dyed linen or natural/bleeched 16/2 and 20/2 Egyption linen (pricey those) and #10 and 12 Belgian singles.

Thanks for the advice.  I ordered some 16/2 from Vavstuga.  The warp that was on the Baby Mac that I bought is very interesting.  It is cellulose, very strong, ~ 10/2, with a slight sheen.

I've ordered 30/2 cotton from them for collared shirt fabric. It's nice cotton, smoother and less 'hairy' than Brassard's. But Brassard's has nothing that fine.

I got my cotton, and I'm impressed!  It is smoother than Brassard's, which was the best cotton that I had found.  It is a lovely cream color.

Oh yeah, it's excellent cotton for sure. :)

Brassard does carry 16/2 Borg Linen, pricey 100 g bobbins.
