i would like to make dish washcloths using sugar and cream as the weft...i may or may not attempt pick up techniiques for a simple design... my questions: how do you finish the edges of a washcloth? im thinking that s&c might be too thick to pass under a sewing machine... is there a way to weave several at a time, bind off (but dont remove from loom), and start the next one...after all are done, just cut apart? or do i start and end with a thinner yarn that can be sewn by machine? any help would be appreciated... thank you!

My friend and I have 32" kromski harps.  She has made dishcloths with Sugar and Cream warp and Red Heart Scrubby weft making 2 dishcloths across the loom--using 2 separate shuttles.  This makes a great soft/sturdy scrubby dishcloth.  She finished with zigzagging the seam binding, but she also said that a crochet edge would work great after loom binding off.  This dishcloth is really nice.  Once I get my current project finished, I am ready to start them.  I hope this helps.

do a lighter weft for the hems, I have done that. I have also hand hemmed them To make multiple cloths in a row jst put a pick ot two of a contrating color between each cloth. Zig zag on each side of this pick between each cloth before cutting them apart. If you have a serger you could also use that.

I have a Kromski 32" and a Cricket 15".  I have dish towels going on the Kromski and dish rags to match on the cricket. All being done with sugar and cream.  I have run enough warp on the cricket to produce 4 dish rags. I hem stiched the top and bottoms of them.  And was shown by a local weaver to seperate each one with a simple strip of toilette paper in the shed as opposed to yarn. If you do 2 or three sheds this way it gives ample room to seperate upon completion. She also showed me this as a technique to spred the warp out in the beginning of a project as well so as to not waste precious yarn. As I write this please know, I am a complete newbie and am impressed with any cool savings tip. I have gotten two dish clothes completed and am continueing on to the third and have half of the first dish towel done. I warped enough for two, one right after ther other. I have the same fringe question as well, as I wish to have a smooth edge. I was supposing that if I trimmed the edge close enough to the hemstitch then crochet a row over the two ends maybe I would find the result I was looking for. These are my firsts, so I am up for any and all suggestion. Also I had read to turn under then stitch, but thought it might be to bulky. Can't wait to hear everyones responses!!

Weave 'n Spin

I've had success using and unmercerize 8/2 cotton in the warp with S&C in the weft. I've then woven about 1.5" before and after each S&C segment with the 8/2 cotton or sewing thread and used this for zigzag and upturned hem. Almost any machine should sew this. I also have an old Singer straight stitch  that handles a very thick hems woven with S&C very well.

I've also warped with S&C and woven with 8/2 cotton with very good results. To machine sew this hem I had to use the old Singer.
