I have finished weaving five dish towels on a straight twill warp using 8/2 unmercerised cotton.  Each towel treadled differently.  They all came out lovely and soft, and four of them are nice and rectangular.  But the one woven in straight twill came out warped, noticeably not to square  It's a perfectly serviceable dish towel, but it's a weaving sample, and I want to learn from it so I don't do it again.  What what would cause this?

Might be the one directionality of the weave. Do the others have more of a 《》 or <> or ww to them, balancing things, while this one is all ////, no \\\\?

Have you tried straightening it when wet by pulling on opposite corners,  then ironing it dry? That's what I would try first.

May have been draw in or uneven tension if it was at the end of the weaving.

Pam nailed it. A straight twill can skew along the twill line direction. Wet it out , pull on it against the twill line, then give it a hard press. Cheers Laura

I may not have been a weaver very long, but I've sewed since I was 3. I remember that denim, a straight twill, can do that. :)

Having a background in textiles definitely helps. :) Cheers Laura

Thanks so much for your suggestions.  Yes, this towel was threaded and treadled 4-3-2-1 and skewed along the twill line.  All the other towels had some reversals in the direction of treadling, which kept them square.  Damp with a hard press has taken care of the last one.  Thanks again!

We have pretty much been, done that. Glad it worked. It may not be 'permanent' but now you know how to deal with it. Cheers Laura
