Is it necessary to have the stadig feet for a Glimakra loom? I am waiting the arrival of an Ideal. Does the loom move around much on hardwood floors?

My Ideal seems to stand still on its rubber feet. I have considered the Stadig feet, but never got round to it. But then I have not yet woven many rugs on the Ideal. Maybe I will think differently when that happens, as it will soon.

Congratulations with your new loom!

I have a "Standard" on a tile floor. I put some of that blue painter's tape on the floor where my loom is and made a dozen rugs. Checked to see if the loom moved. To my suprise, it hadn't move any. I'm guessing if you had loom  on carpet it would might have a problem with walking. Steve.

Thanks for the reply Eva. I think I'll wait and see how it goes.

The stadig feet are not necessary, but I found them quite useful on my 30 year old varpa (which has rubber feet).  Using the stadig eliminated walking, and made a big reduction in how frequently I had  to retighten the bolts, and made weaving quieter. But the best thing was that they helped raise up the loom to a more comfortable height for both tie-up and weaving.  Older Glimakra Ideals (pre-1980s) have a lower breast beam, as do many older looms, and the 1 1/2 - 2 inches from the stadig were enough to make a real difference.

I have read that you only need two stadig (at the back) to prevent walking, but Glimakra USA sells them as a set of four, and it was a very worthwhile investment for me.  I was dissappointed that they don't fit well on my Toika.
