What structure are you planning?

Plain weave = looser, floats = tighter

i'm doing it in a 2/2 twill...

The reason I would start at 18 is you said an unlined coat in a twill. For good garment wear, Daryl Lancaster recommends a slightly warp dominate (vs balanced) weave and closer sett for longer wear.

16 epi is a typical recommendation for 5/2 plain weave. Frankly, I would sample before proceeding, as I wonder if you would want to even try 20 epi? When it comes to warping a loom, the sett is the quickest and easiest thing to change once the loom is all set up.

To sley for 18, that would look like this in a 12 dent reed (each dot represents a warp thread). If you need to sley for 20, switch to your 10 dent, with 2 per dent.
