Hi

purchased about 50 balls of ruffle yarn(CHEAP)

Was going to turn it into mats, rugs that type of thing

Not sure on what sort of warp

considering 12/6 cotton rug warp(or seine) or maybe a 12 or 16 ply wool(thas aussie for heay and very heavy)

Have rigid heddle,8 shaft table loom,2x4 shaft floor looms and possible access to a 12 shaft floor loom

Greatfull for any ideas forgive any spelling errors

thanks Ceaderton

I suggest u just google it-apparently it is used in crocheting The type I have is 24 meters per 100g ball marked "lincraft trinity ruffle yarn" Lincraft is an Australian retailer of fabric and yarns etc but i see Moda vera and other brands on ebay Is on ebay(hope i broke no rules)

I see.  I have used ruffle yarn to make scarves when knitting.  It is a "bulky yarn" , but only becomes ruffled when knit and maybe crocheted (sp?).  Are you planning on using it straight from the ball?  You could get a mat that way, but you will be sort of horrified how fast it will weave up.  I would use cotton for the warp.  Good Luck.

I spent a little time googling ruffle yarn as I also had never heard of it. From what I found I'd guess you have an acrylic product. I'd suggest using a cotton warp and treating the yarn like rags or sock loops for a weft. The yardage/50 g ball seems to vary widely by product, so you will want to calculate how much yardage you need for weft (I saw 7 yards/ball up to 33 yards per ball, as Deirdre said it will weave up very quickly). I wonder how much wear and tear a rug made from this yarn will stand up to?

yes I sorta figured out a heavy cotton yarn maybe even 16/8 (US language) As i said I have 50 balls(less 2 I cut up as warp then when no way) at 24 meters and given its thickness i feel will weave at about 4/5 wefts to the inch Thats beating hard as for wear and tear we will see but I feel will be very very hard wearing time will tell and thank you for help

Please show us the project when you're done (and perhaps your progress along the way?). I'd love to see how it turns out.

I am very new to weaving and certainly have never woven ruffle scarf yarn. However, I have knitted a bunch of those scarves back when they were popular. The yarn comes flat off of the ball. To use, you stretch the yarn open from side to side, then knit/crochet along the end, gathering as you go. My guess is you would use it unexpanded for weaving...though it might be interesting to pull up sections of ruffle after the weaving is complete.

have settled on 12 ply bakers twine(100% cotton) now have to settle on a loom unsure maybe 4 shaft floor or just a rigid heddle loom and will try and post some pictures thanks again

Ok lonfg timed passed but I finally did my "test" weaving of this ended up with 3 excellent mats-used 4 shaft floor loom twill weave and as staed 12 ply butxhers twine 4 dents per inch on a 8 dent reed-ruffle yarn weft beat hard

very beautifull in my opinion and so far extrememly strong cant see that changing

now if i could only post some pictures lol

and wish I had checked my typing o well hope u have the gist
