I have a question about the rinse phase. I'm taking Karren's advise and dyeing one of each of the wheel rather than fixating on one color. So here is my dilema, while the bath takes equally long, do i have to rinse out each individual skein, then vinegar each one, then boil each one, then final rinse with softener all with clean and new water/fixers? Or can i lump them anywhere in the process, say after the vinegar phase? I don't want to test it and have my turquoise spoil a yellow.

Thanks!

Mary

Can you do the wash down in the jars, and then process the jars together?

The washdown is a real pain, I'm doing skeins of painted chenille-- not as small as your skeins (200yds. each) but just as many.  Wringing is slow.  I'm thinking of a centifuge(spin dryer) , any one have any expeience with the two that are out there?

from Laundry Alternative (Dharma Trading has a better price on this one than the Laundry Alternative site).  I've only been using it for the small skeins so far, but it is the bees knees!  Skeins are nearly dry when I take them out.  I've been using it for each wring out from the wash down phase.  I've not had it long but so far, so good.  I think Anne has a centrifuge as well, might be the same one (maybe she can weigh in).

Mine is 3200rpm from The Laundry Alternative (I didn't know it was available from Dharma Trading).  It is fantastic.  Dharma Trading has it in stock for $129.00.  The Laundry Alternative is out of stock, but would be $140.00 (more than I paid for it in February).

I guess it's one at a time - because most times i do the synthapol wash/boil on the stove there is color in the pot -

i bought the spinner from the laundry alternative - i think i paid about 95.00 (shipping included) i'll locate my invoice to let you know where i found it online. It is amazing -

Sounds like Anne and I have the 3200 rpm one, and maybe Mary has the 1600 rpm one?  I've used the 1600 rpm one in a class before and we were overloading it, but it seemed to perform okay.

If Mary found the 3200 rpm one for $95 including shipping, that's a great price!!

The 3200 rpm model is probably more than you need.  It can do a large load of laundry. I only think of it for my dyeing and felting, though.  (Shows you where my brain is.)
