Hi!  I would like to learn doubleweave.  I have the duplicate heddles and second heddle block.  However, I can't find information anywhere as to which size yarn the heddles can handle in doubleweave.  Since the slots will have 3 warp threads in them, won't it be too crowded for them to make a shed (if I use the usual sized yarn per heddle)?  Thanks

I have never actually done double weave on a rigid heddle, only on my table and floor looms. You need at least 4 shafts for double weave, so I assume you will be using two pick up sticks. This means you will have twice the sett ofr each layer goin through both heddles.

As you say the key is having enough room to get a shed. I don't know what heddles you have or what you normally use, so it is difficult for me to say yes use the usual yarn. I suppose a good way to test would be to put the requisit number of threads through the slots in both heddles and see if you can raise one at a time.

The threads will pass each other in the slots.  The holes and slots are larger than needed for threads used at that sett.  But, stay away from fuzzy yarns, bumpy yarns or yarns with slubs.

what Joanne said - also keep in mind that as you weave you are in essence making two layers of cloth and that will fill up your cloth beam faster than a single layer of weaving. Therfore you need to keep that in mind when planning on the length of cloth you are planning on weaving. I have been successful using several different kinds of yarn in weaving doubleweave with my rigid heddle loom. I usually use my 10dpi heddles. Unless i am am using a bulky yarn. Thinner yarns you might want to go to a size 12.
