Thanks for showing the steps so clearly in your photo series. It makes me want to try that after seeing your work, but I don't think I would have the patience for such a large project. :) Did you use a shuttle or darning needle to carry the threads?

thank you Ruth

yeah the only reason i was able to  do this belt is  that i  did NOT do  the arithmatic beforehand haha ;)

i didn't use shuttles, i wrapped the thread into quasi-butterfly "cocoons" that i learned from the book  Zati: Weaving a Life http://www.weavingalife.com/

Notes

using green & purple pearl cotton, & 2-ply grey-wool warp yarns for the wefts....

bottom of piece has row of greek-soumak (in the grey), 2 rows of oriental single-soumak (black cotton) & then i began the pattern with the colored yarns....

all of the pattern being woven in "egyptian tapestry" soumak because i dig the ribbing effect :) ... seems to be 162(ish) knots per sq. inch... (i didn't know it  would be this "dense" when  i started it,& i am fighting urge to whimper now haha) ;)

had initially thought i'd tack a couple dangly-blue-eyes to the belt (possibly fringe) but changed mind, i'm just "hiding" one (ha!) in the belt itself, center/back of belt...

still have plans to bead the belt, just with wooden/metal beads though, no spooky eyes  ;)

UPDATE: Apr. 5th, not finished yet, darning in ends, & want to bead it after i am able to get beads eventually, but its off the loom.. no more soumak craziness! (for now) haha ;)
