Hello everybody

My name is Orit Ivshin a jewellery designer and a master's degree student at the "Shenkar" College of Engineering & Design.(TLV, Israel) As part of my academic tasks I have a research mission for the "Shenkar" fashion archive, trying to identify the origin of this belt/strap and the techniqe it was made by. I saw endless number of weaved straps in books and on the web but none of them had the uniqe colorful, fluffy ending like the one I have. Does any of you have a clue?

Your last photo shows the technique clearly. On one side are fluffy pile ends. On the side shown are dots of those colors - at the time it was made, extra threads were knotted around the warp end pairs of the band. The pile was then cut to the desired length.

Think knotted pile rug - on one side you have pile and the other side shows the same dots of color where each knot was made.

I' ve not seen any just like this, but it is possible that the weaver had an original idea for making the band more interesting. The rest of the piece is woven in the "normal" way as a warp faced textile.
