Hello! I am taking my first stab at rep weave. I am planning on making coasters. I am interested in hearing people's thoughts about what yarn to use for the warp. I am planning on using cotten, but am unsure of the size. Would carpet warp be a good idea? Or 8/2?

Also, for the weft I was thining of bundling together some carpet warp or using Peaches and Cream. Do those seem like reasonable options?

I'm not sure if anything of these things matter or if there are specific things I should consider when picking a yarn for this project.

Thank you so much!

8/2 would be fine, as would carpet warp. It depends on how thick you want your coasters, and how many threads you want to thread!  If it were me I'd use carpet warp since it makes for a thicker and heavier coaster, which seems better to me. But I would not use bundled carpet warp for the thicker weft, for several reasons. Partly 'bundled' threads can get really unruly, with the threads getting ending up different lengths, but mostly carpet warp won't really smoosh together and  the ridges you get with repp weave might just not look right. I'd go with the  Peaches and Cream, but you can try the carpet warp too and see what you like, cloth strips work well too. Another thing with Repp weave, I like it a bit open so just a tiny bit of the weft shows through. It's a more interesting cloth to my eye.

That is very helpful! I will experiment with different levels of openness before I start the full on project.

Thanks!
